Problem with DEP-450 Roaming

Post by ramomh » Thu Sep 20, 2018 6:30 pm

Hi! This is my firt topic in this forum.

I have a System with two SLR-5100 repeaters using IPSC with a big coverage area overlaped. The remote terminal are the DEP-450 and DGP-5550 models.
At the HT DEP-450 there are some roaming problems. The DEP-450 turn "deaf" after some idle time. To fix the problem is needed to change and retorn the HT channel key or reboot the equipment. I already tried diferent roaming levels but nothing solved this kind of problem. It is solved when the roaming is disabled. The DGP-5550 is working well with Roaming enabled.

The firmware that are using at the DEP-450 are:
R01.01.30 and R01.01.21.0000

at the repeater I'm using R02.08.05.03

Some of you experienced some problem like this? Can you help me?

Are the units all at the same firmware generation both repeater and portable?

No, there are three diferent firmware versions. As I said, the firmwares used are:

DEP-450: R01.01.30 and R01.01.21.0000
SLR-5100: R02.08.05.03

There isn't a R02 firmware for DEP-450 and both used have the same problems.

I'd like to know a Firmware release document explaining what was/were changed in each firmware version.

Motos does address some of the fixes in the firmware release documents. Generally speaking if you have the document for any region the changes will be the same.

First thing check the freq on the radio a little difference like a couple of hundred Hz can be all thats wrong. Compare it to the working radio and net it to the same freq and test the roaming.

Also the roaming issue may be related to the system hold time in the unit. How close to the edge of the system are you when it roams. I am leaning towards it being a RSSI level issue where the radio looses the CC long enough for it to go int "hibernation" and stop looking for a valid CC.

@ramomh

Seen you post on three different boards now. If this radio uses the R01 Firmware then move to the R01.12.17 release if in fact it uses R02 firmware then move to R02.07.n or higher.

What you describe was a fairly common issue in 2016 and I believe was addressed by a combination of Subscriber and Repeater Firmware.

Once you have updated use the Diag capability of a display radio to look at the RSSI levels and determine what you should be setting in the radio for moving over to another site.

For the first tip, all DEP450 have the same problem when working with roaming enabled. They work for some time normally, including roaming, and than stop to receive calls. Just DGP5550 works without any kind of problem. They were programed almost the same way.

I also don't agree with second possibility that you mentioned. The HT stops to receive calls under the coverage area. As I said, the two sites have a big coverage overlaped and in a rare times the HT left the coverage areas.

Good to know it was discussed and solved in the past. But can you say it was happen with DEP450 models?
One characteristic of this model is that an R02 version was not developed for it. The recently version is R01.01.30 codeplug 11.00.46

So I am in NA and we don't have the DEP models. But Firmware for REL 01 went up to R01.12.17

On the EMEA MOL I don't see this device, what region are you in ?

I'm in Latin America. The DEP450 is the entry model of the motoTRBO line in my region.

The DEP is the same as the CP200D in NA region or the or the DP1400 in EMEA.
