APX v16.01.00 coming soon

Post by Notarola » Sun May 07, 2017 6:20 pm

I received the new firmware package from Moto for v16.01.00. I guess it will be time to go out and update lots and lots and lots and lots of radios. I will be waiting a few days since I do not what a repeat of the headaches with v14/15.

There is one interesting thing the firmware wont load without matching CPS v16.01.00 which does not exist yet. I hope this is not a hint of issues with the update??

Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully there are not any big bugs that show up this round.

I expect to see v16.01.00 CPS any day now. Although Moto does seem to have a bad internal communications issue. Usually what happens is that new hardware is sold using a CPS version that is not released yet. In the past I have received cartons of new hardware and had to wait weeks before the CPS to program them arrives.

Isn't 16.01.00 to be released next week? There was a notice that said not to upgrade to 16.00.00 unless it was absolutely necessary. I'll never understand why they do that.

Here's what MOL has to say:
R16.01.00 will be released by the end of May which includes an update for frequency ranges applicable only in Canada. We recommend waiting to upgrade to R16.01.00 if possible to avoid upgrading twice.
So basically it's just a convenience thing that really only applies to Canuckistans. I had no problem installing R16.00.00 CPS so I could start field-testing R16.01.00 firmware.

Canada has a few expanded band limits in the 860 mhz area. It never hurts to have a radio that will do something extra especially if its free. BTW there is no Canada only APX hardware its all the same.

This is exactlly why I wait a few weeks to do upgrades. I also rotate encryption keys at the same time. Ill wait and get the 16.01.00. Ugggg yet another 2gig download.

You know how long it takes to download this bloatware when your connection is only 5mb? Sheesh!

I agree even the standalone is huge. With Moto pushing RMS its just going to get worse. The reason Moto cant just upload the changed files is because the compiler matches the build and other info to all the files in the program.

I remember the DOS days, everything had to fit on a 1.5 meg disk. Now with 11 gig media available the programs are starting to fill the available media just because its there.
