Re: What do you use for test equipment?

This is what I picked up. http://m.ebay.com/itm/Trimble-ThunderBolt-Timing-GPS-Receiver-GPSDO-10MHz-1PPS-GPS-Disciplined-Clock-/252766024779?hash=item3ada07744b%3Ag%3A8zIAAOSwImRYarhl&_trkparms=pageci%253Ad09e2678-f1ec-11e6-a52f-74dbd180c00e%257Cparentrq%253A3792271b15a0a6a8cc071f54fff8c5a4%257Ciid...

Re: Favorite VHF Wideband antenna?

Panorama's tri-band whip. With the NMO adapter, list price is about $75. The antenna is spec'd for 146-174/430-480/764-896 MHz. Other than that, I like the Motorola/AS heavy duty 1/4 wave whip with spring (non-/\/\ PN: MWV1365S). Of course, Motorola runs the AS base on their version usually.

Re: MASTR III - General Opinion?

The only irk I have with the VHF MASTR III is the receivers aren't great (if you don't have the pre-amp option). About 6 months ago I had the opportunity to perform a side-by-side with a VHF Quantar, MASTR III and MASTR IV (which simply adds a "modem" option to the MASTR III). The analog receive sen...

Re: Motorola APX Firmware 18 and above moving forward

My only problems with the EID update process used by TRBO subscribers is the fact that once the EID is loaded onto a computer, that computer is the only one that can update the feature. Of course the work around for this to do this when on site to perform the upgrade but I've found I'm lucky to have...

Re: FIRMWARE VERSION 17.01.01

I recently acquired an APX1500 and was going to flash it to current, guess I'll go with one of the R16 versions.

Re: 12 dB SINAD vs 5% BER

I have always liked digital modes for exactly what you illustrated. With permission, I might include these clips and test data in my next presentation to a CERT group that is adamant against going digital for the sake of the old-timers not wanting to mess with "those new modes only cops use". It ma...

12 dB SINAD vs 5% BER

Performed an experiment about six months ago and figured I'd finally stop sitting on the audio. This test compares the audio quality of 5% BER versus 12 dB SINAD (i.e. the points at which we spec analog and digital receiver sensitivity to) as it is reproduced by a 7/800 MHz Motorola XTS5000 with fir...

Re: P25 Techs from a Different View

When I tested a VHF MASTR III and compared it side by side to a MASTR IV I was not all that impressed. Note, my understanding is the only real difference between a MASTR III and IV is that the IV has an optional modem card which allows it to handle P25. In talking with several Harris techs, adding t...

Re: Interop Between Type I & II

Long term I'm going to either go to Type II (potentially in the form of an IR site) or just straight to P25. The other weekend I had to run down there and much to my dismay, two of the three Quantro's were flashing PA failure errors (turns out the cavity combiners drifted after not being truly PM'd ...

Re: Odessey Control Head Discrepencies

The only thing is, the CPS knows its the Odyssey head. I've noticed that if you convert from a W series to an O series head it'll be on the same line but if it's initialized as a O series head it will be correct. However, my archive was a case of drag-n-drop from a W9 archive so that may have been w...

Re: APX 8500

At the beginning of may, I put 30 APX8500's into service for a PD. Waste of money for their application IMO but that's what some bright sales person sold them. Please note, I'm not saying that the APX8500 is a waste of money, it just was in this case as the city's emergency services were doing a for...

Re: Resources for Info On GE Orions

I wrote down the flash but I’m still learning these. This one came from a area where edacs was just abandoned (5 year migration with P25) and a few years ago the Phase 1 System went Phase 2. 800 MHz with EDACs is what I currently know. If it came from where I'm guessing it came from, it'll have EDA...

Odessey Control Head Discrepencies

Afternoon gents, I have an interesting discrepancy between two O5 control heads which I can not figure out. One, Zone name is on it's own line above the channel name. The other, it's in front of the channel name. Both of these radios were shipped as O5's however, the one that is displaying the zone ...
