Re: Radio receiver sensitivity question

Guess they've been fully succeeded by the SL3500. Well, there is always used SL7550's.

Re: Radio receiver sensitivity question

It's called Capacity Plus and it is an EID option for the SL300 but I'm not sure how you go about getting it through Motorola currently.

Linked Capacity Plus is Capacity Plus + IP Site Connect and the SL300 is not capable of that (but the SL3500 and XPR3000 may be).

Re: Radio receiver sensitivity question

The SL300 has always been Capacity Plus capable. It is not however, Linked Capacity Plus (multi-site, linked) capable. I don't think LCP is a worthwhile investment though as the LCP license is actually more than the cost of the repeater (and you need one for each repeater). According to MOL, they ca...

Re: Radio receiver sensitivity question

The advantage of the S24 is that it is waterproof and like the SL300/3500 is capable of being charged and programmed with a standard USB-Micro cable. That being said, Capacity Plus (which means you need SL or XPR subscribers) sounds like a far better solution as if you were to put 10-15 groups on, y...

Re: Radio receiver sensitivity question

From first hand experience, I can't recommend the EVX line. If you have no other choice, buy the S24 as it has a better receiver when talking about the legacy Vertex line. However, you are better off purchasing something like the SL300 or SL3500 as they allow you to take advantage of the features of...

Re: What do you use for test equipment?

I'm a poor-ass public servant so all I could afford for personal use was a R2660. My old personal, a R2590, died a horrible death when the memory batteries (three AAs!) leaked into 7 of the 12 PCBs. The 2600 series is a capable monitor for doing basic analog TX/RX and duplex tests, but I really mis...

Re: Favorite VHF Wideband antenna?

Panorama's tri-band whip. With the NMO adapter, list price is about $75. The antenna is spec'd for 146-174/430-480/764-896 MHz. Other than that, I like the Motorola/AS heavy duty 1/4 wave whip with spring (non-/\/\ PN: MWV1365S). Of course, Motorola runs the AS base on their version usually. Thanks...

Re: MASTR III - General Opinion?

The only irk I have with the VHF MASTR III is the receivers aren't great (if you don't have the pre-amp option). About 6 months ago I had the opportunity to perform a side-by-side with a VHF Quantar, MASTR III and MASTR IV (which simply adds a "modem" option to the MASTR III). The analog receive sen...

Re: Motorola APX Firmware 18 and above moving forward

My only problems with the EID update process used by TRBO subscribers is the fact that once the EID is loaded onto a computer, that computer is the only one that can update the feature. Of course the work around for this to do this when on site to perform the upgrade but I've found I'm lucky to have...

I recently acquired an APX1500 and was going to flash it to current, guess I'll go with one of the R16 versions.

Re: 12 dB SINAD vs 5% BER

I have always liked digital modes for exactly what you illustrated. With permission, I might include these clips and test data in my next presentation to a CERT group that is adamant against going digital for the sake of the old-timers not wanting to mess with "those new modes only cops use". It ma...
