Re: Resources for Info On GE Orions

I wrote down the flash but I’m still learning these. This one came from a area where edacs was just abandoned (5 year migration with P25) and a few years ago the Phase 1 System went Phase 2. 800 MHz with EDACs is what I currently know. If it came from where I'm guessing it came from, it'll have EDA...

Re: Interop Between Type I & II

Older Type II subscribers (Maxtracs, Spectras, and the like) can absolutely be used on a Type 1 system. I *believe* support for Type 1 stopped with the Astro product line. Type I subscribers on a II system is also possible, but entailed using a Rosetta Stone conversion chart for the talkgroups that ...

Re: 7.16 Release

So it's a pretty big jump? And would be done for the potential of migrating to Phase II in the future. A new system being installed in my county is in a holding pattern because of this release. The agency we're piggybacking off of is in negotiations with M to upgrade to 7.16. Which will no doubt ad...

Re: 100 Watts, 100 Feet, 100 Miles

Ahh, but extra power combined with antenna gain will get'cha out there a little bit further. I'm going to venture a guess that this cement company probably runs 5/8-wave antennas on their cabs; most of the VHF guys around here do. If they want to drop $5k on a super-basic HP APX7500, I say sell it. ...

Re: APX encryption

Is it true the APX 8000 / 8500 come with free encryption? The P25 CAP (compliance assessment program) team recently mandated that for a radio to be certified as compliant it HAD to include AES-256 at no additional cost IF the radio was manufactured to be encryption-capable. All APX radios except fo...

Re: Talk Inhibit/Talk Permit Tone

The alert tone on clear TX is a fed thing, and has been around for decades. No way to reverse it in Motorola equipment. Your options for PTT sidetones when encrypted are: Analog Securenet - enable MDC PTT ID (and for an extra-long tone, enable Key ID TX) Conventional P25 - none :( Trunking P25 - PTT...

Re: IMPRES firmware update above 3.9/3.11?

The fix you reference was made in V3.9: What’s the difference between V3.4 and V3.9? Very Little: APX batteries are fully compatible with XTS chargers (w/inserts) with SW V3.4, therefore upgrading to V3.9 is not required. However, APX radio users leaving the radio in the “on” position will experien...

Re: ADP encryption

Is the talkgroup you're trying to run secure on perhaps configured for clear voice only at the system level? My brain is dead today. Good call otaku. S'kay, my brain is almost always dead. And strapping talkgroups for one or the other, while a good security measure, has bitten me in the ass a...

Yeah. screw that. A kind soul on another board informed me that this is a Hirose MS-147 connector, and with that I was able to find a SMA adapter on Mouser for *substantially* less.

Re: Antenna adapter for XPR threaded stud connector

Google tells me the part # is HLN8262A. I just wonder how well it works given that there's no ground point outside the chassis. Interestingly, I found this while checking the radio out: http://mototaku.net/misc/img/20171205_125942.jpg That port is protected by a thick rubber plug on the back of the ...

Re: Monitoring system input channels

If you want to go super-cheap, RTL-SDR. If you want something a little nicer, maybe look at an AOR or similar "professional" receiver.

RTL-SDR has the added benefit of being able to decode most any digital protocol you throw at it, except maybe for OpenSky or TETRA.

Re: Tag question

Guys, Thanks for the help regarding this. Ultimately I have made the decision to keep the radio with the original intentions above. Not for use in structure fire, unless other radio is out of commission for some reason, but mainly for medicals and wrecks and such. Mind you, I’m in a volunteer depar...
